Introducing Winnersh Parish Council

There are 15 seats on the Parish Council with elections every four years. The Council meets on the third Tuesday of every month except August with an Annual Parish Meeting held in May.

Winnersh Parish Council (WPC) owns and manages the Winnersh Community Centre and Bearwood Recreation Ground which are used for a wide range of activities:

  • Winnersh Hall
  • Meeting rooms – the Sindlesham Room and the Allnatt Pavilion
  • Football pitches – full-size and junior
  • Activity areas for children and young people

WPC provides allotments situated off Woodward Close, Winnersh.

The Council is consulted by Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) on all planning proposals and applications for Winnersh and comments on them, providing local knowledge.

WPC is also consulted by WBC and other bodies and comments and lobbies on a wide range of local issues. For example, together with parents, residents and other interested parties, WPC established the Bearwood Road Safety Working Party which obtained improved road safety measures in Sindlesham (speed limits and a pedestrian crossing).

The Council works closely with WBC to ensure that the best possible services are obtained for the residents of Winnersh.

Councillors sit as representatives on several bodies run by other authorities and in the voluntary sector.

Grants are given by the Council to many voluntary organisations working in Winnersh or for Winnersh residents.

Civic Awards are awarded periodically to individuals or groups who provide outstanding voluntary service within Winnersh.

The Council has three main Committees: the Recreation and Amenities and Planning and Transport Committees meets monthly and the Finance and General Purposes Committee meets quarterly or as needed.

Winnersh residents are very welcome to attend the Council’s meetings, where there is a Public Session near the beginning of the meetings for residents to express their views and ask questions, and the Annual Parish Meeting.
