Winnersh Parish Council has adopted a set of “Strategic Aims” to guide its work over
the next few years. Reproduced below, they are designed to be concise, pragmatic
and achievable.
Vision: Winnersh Parish Council will strive to make Winnersh and Sindlesham places
where people want to live and work, enjoying a sustainable quality of life with good
services in a safe and pleasant environment.
Aims: We will work with other statutory and voluntary bodies to focus on the following
strategic aims with a five-year horizon, the aims to be reviewed at least annually.
Community Leadership
- Provide Community Leadership in partnership with other local organisations
- Promote and/or run community events such as the Winnersh Village Fete
- Encourage and support other local organisations to improve the Winnersh community
- Publish the Winnersh Matters community magazine three times annually
- Renew the WPC website as a focal point for community activity
Development and Infrastructure
- Campaign for improved infrastructure to support the expanding population, including
traffic, health and education provision
- Resist any substantial development in Winnersh or Arborfield which does not lead
directly to completion of the relief road
- Oppose inappropriate in-fill development
- Limit industrial economic activity to existing sites; support the redevelopment of
Winnersh Triangle subject to adequate traffic measures
- Consult on the needs and feasibility of creating a Health Centre, working with health
professionals and the Primary Care Trust (possible sites: Sainsbury’s, Winnersh Farm)
- Support the development and expansion of the Rainbow Centre as a community centre
and a Children’s Centre
- Support the excellent work of our schools where needed: in particular support the
redevelopment of The Forest School site and maintenance of the Bearwood Primary School
site while proposals to relocate it are stalled
Commercial
- Encourage retention / expansion of retail businesses especially in the Winnersh Crossroads
area
- Retain a Post Office in Winnersh as a valuable community facility
- Improve recycling provision in the centre of Winnersh
Leisure
- Continue providing quality facilities for public events, meetings and sporting activities
- Develop the recreational use of Winnersh Meadows
- Provide exercise equipment for older people to complement the recently completed
youth facilities
- Support the provision of community facilities in the Forest School rebuild
Other
- Reduce litter discarded in the streets
- Work with the police to provide a ‘police post’ in the centre of Winnersh
- Move towards making the Parish Council’s facilities more energy efficient
- Encourage enforcement of speed limits in Winnersh
